What Should Kopi Luwak Cost?
Kopi Luwak is sold in the UK anywhere between £12 and £300 a bag. That range is not a market finding its level — it is several different products wearing one name.
The Short Version
Roughly £40–£60 per 100g
Genuine wild Kopi Luwak, bought from a seller who can tell you where it came from, lands at roughly £40–£60 per 100g in the UK once delivery is included. Our own prices: £24.99 for 50g, and £44.99 for 125g, the larger bag at a better rate per gram.
Below about £25 per 100g, the economics stop working. Somewhere in that supply chain, either the animals are caged or the bag is not what the label says.
The Breakdown
Why It Costs What It Does
- Scarcity. Authentic wild production is estimated in the hundreds of kilograms per year globally, against roughly ten million tonnes of coffee overall.
- Hand labour. Foraging is walking. Sorting is done bean by bean. Neither step can be mechanised without abandoning the thing being paid for.
- Small-batch roasting. Lots are too small for commercial roasting runs.
- Direct purchase. Paying farming families properly costs more than buying through brokers.
- Import duty and VAT. Real costs on a real product outside the UK. They are not included in our prices: the customer pays them to customs or the carrier on arrival, and we say so clearly before checkout.
Reading the Tiers
What Each Price Band Means
Under £20 per 100g. Treat as caged, blended or mislabelled. At this price the maths does not close.
£20–£35 per 100g. Possible, but ask the five questions. Often caged production with good branding.
£40–£60 per 100g. The realistic band for wild-foraged coffee from a seller who will answer questions about origin.
Above £100 per 100g. Sometimes genuine and exceptional; often the same coffee in a heavier box. Ask what the extra buys.
Before You Buy
A Short Checklist
- Does the seller name a specific region, not just a country?
- Do they state plainly whether the civets are caged?
- Is the product ever out of stock? Wild supply runs out.
- Are the beans whole, and roasted at origin or shortly after import?
- Is the total price clear, including delivery and any duties?

UK delivery is free on everything. Outside the UK postage is added at checkout; any import VAT and duties are paid by the customer on arrival.
